ok, i'm looking for a bike that's pretty cheap, but between the gsxR or the R6/R6S.

I'm ready to buy right now.

Your just getting into bikes - have you been on one before?

edit: yeah that R1 is just pure sex but its also instant death.

if you can get a bike for around $5000 - $6000 then there's still gear which will cost you about $1000 and if you have the time take the MSF course (its $350 for the weekend course) and they give you your license at the DMV after you present your MSF certificate and ofcourse you get insurance discount.

that bike site has the stupidest search feature.

if the letter is under 4 letters, you can't find it.

I mean, half of these bikes have 3 letter designation for their name!

I'm not taking MSF course. I have my private instructor. AKA my neighbor who's been riding for a while and my private course, AKA parking lot of Garden Ridge.

I know the YZF isn't an R6, but it's in your budget and thought I'd mention it. Good luck finding a bike.

I have my MSF handbook your more than welcome to borrow it to browse through - it definitely helps out, but its very similar to the DMV Motorcycle book.

I've downloaded the MSF handbook from dmv. it's pretty interesting how different it is from driving a car.

haha - thats what I said.
I went to get my license last week Tuesday, rode around Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday all on back roads and loved it. Sunday we headed up to Alpharetta, I85, 285W & 400N - it was awesome, just amazing how riding relaxes you even though you have to pay attention to everything around you.

Edit: Yes, I think after you've paged through it - it makes you much more aware of your daily driving habits and considering other drivers and riders.

you know the only reason I would get the new bike would be that Yamaha has a deal now and I could pay like $70 a month for 3 years and I could roll my gears into the bike as well...

When you finance a bike you have to get FULL COVERAGE, I only have liability so it works out to about $50 a month for insurance

Yes - you can go take you permit test (computerized multiple-guess) at the DMV office, when you pass you can start riding - no passengers, no interstate and no riding at night (those are the limitations of the permit). But like you said, parking lot = your best friend to start off!

I just took the MSF and got my license

edit: make sure you read the DMV booklet at least 3 or more times, they ask the questions very tricky and you basically have to remember the exact words from the book to get the questions right (they have similar answers) but its a total breeze if you read the booklet.

oh, i know what you're saying. My credit union said the same thing when I got my car. Like you have to have certain deductible on your insurance. I never did it though, and they seem not to care about it.

on the bikes the insurance companies are very strict - statefarm would not insure me because I had one ticket in the last 3 years

its better to start off on a used bike anyways - hate to say it but everyone does, YOUR GOING TO DROP THE BIKE. It just happens.
