MR Bilstiens vs. aftermarket coils Empty
PostSubject: MR Bilstiens vs. aftermarket coils   MR Bilstiens vs. aftermarket coils EmptyWed Jan 30, 2008 1:27 pm

Hey guys, need some opinions and facts.

Will IX MR Bilstiens fit on my GSR VIII?

Also, if they will, would I be better off getting them with some springs (Swift, etc) or going with some Megan Street coils?

Mostly just wanting a decent dropw with better ride.
Most of my driving is DD and occasional 1/4 mile. Help?

Yes they will fit. Yes, the MR Bilsteins will likely be "better" than a basic Megan coilover setup.

A lot of affordable coilover setups don't have the best shocks ... they aren't consistent and sometimes the stiffer setting is actually softer than the soft setting.

the Bilsteins are tuned specifically for the Evo and there isn't much a need to change them. You wouldn't have the adustability, but the ride would likely be smoother on the Bilsteins. You'd also likely have better all around handling characteristics with the Bilsteins and springs than with a basic coilover set.

It's the general consensus that the Bilstein + Springs setup trumps any coilover setup < $2000 if you are looking for improved ride and handling.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was wanting to know.

Next question.

Is $400 too much for some IX MR Bilstiens with 8k?

If they aren't bent or leaking, I'd say that $400 is a pretty good deal. Compare to the EvoM for sale forum. I believe they list for ~$580/ea from Mitsu.

That's a really good deal for the used dampers. I have Swift Sport Mach spring on my MR and I love em! Ride quality is excellent and gives the car a perfect stance. Not that ricer slammed look but evens out the wheel gap in the front. I agree with TouringBubble. Unless you track the car there isn't any need for coilovers. The bilstiens are purpose built for the evo and swift really did there homework in designing their springs.

Call Andrew @ GTWorx.

EvoM UN: GTWorx.com
AIM: drewatgtworx

You can tell him Matt Williams or TouringBubble on EvoM sent you if you'd like. It might make a difference ... I'm not sure. Last I heard he had a few sets of springs in stock.

Ordered the GTWorx springs yesterday. Now I have to find someone in this desolate area to install them. May have to drive 3-4 hours. Such is life in paradise. NOT!

Thanks Matt.
