don't speed in alabama - aug 13-17

This is just a friendly reminder that the State of Alabama has a campaign going on to basically issue as many traffic tickets as possible the week of 8/13-17. The news called it the Taking Back Our Streets program. I just got off the phone with a customer who is an Alabama State Trooper, about this program, and he explained that every uniformed officer including Captains, Supervisors, ABI, Driver’s Lic. Officers, etc. will be pulled from their desks and put into patrol cars during their shift. Obviously this will add a lot of officers to the streets during that week. Officers received e-mails this morning instructing them to also buckle down their enforcement of speeding fines. Officers have been instructed to not issue any warnings that week, only citations, and anything over 10 over will guarantee you a fine. They will be doing more license check roadblocks as well so it’s definitely not the week to try your odds. He said some departments may treat the weekends before and after that week as part of the program, so to be on the safe side, drive carefully 8/11-8/19.

Back in the early 80's I was stationed in Anniston. There was a sheriff who had a 401 Javelin. He would race anyone up 21 to the county line and if you beat him you got off scott free. If he beat you he would charge you with all the traffic infractions he could. He didn't lose much, that was a fast fast Javelin.

The world was a much kinder place then.
