PostSubject: LayinLo's bikes   LayinLo's bikes EmptyTue Jan 08, 2008 8:33 am

Here's some pics:

My 1st, 2nd, and 3rd bikes:

The blue one is a gs500f (for the wifey)
The silver is a sv650
The yellow bike is a GSX-R 750

LayinLo's bikes Bikeshaha

Got rid of the gs500 and the sv650 for a R6. That was a bad move insurance sucked and the bike wasn't that great. (Guess I'm a suzuki man.)
And beside it is my old civic.

R6 and the GSX-R. Right about the time I decided the GSX-R was a great stunt bike and I could run high 10's in the 1/4 with it!

This is what happens when a stoppie goes too far. I was trying to learn how to do rolling endos!

Got rid of the R6 for this beast, A Honda CBR 1000RR Repsol Racing Edition.

God I love the R6!

I've decided that if I ever buy a bike, i'll get the R6. 2003 and up.

The new 2008 model is just sick looking. It's probably one of the best looking bikes out there besides the Ducati 1000 and 999.

Honestly, the R6 was my least favorite. The power band is all wrong. Its there, but it is soo high in the rpm range that to keep any appreciable midrange, you are not even in the midrange anymore.. Neutral

It will be a long time before I will even consider another Yamaha.

They do look great though.

Just read a road test on an 08 R6 (Performance Bike). The bottom line is they have fixed the hole in the mid-range without killing the top end rush. Maybe there is hope.

Helmet, glove, boot, jacket recommendations?

Arai & Sheoi helmets are a little out of my budget at this stage - so I'm getting reviews from folks about other brands.

A lot of people love the Scorpion & Shark helmets.

Own a Shark RSR and love it. It's 3 years old so I just ordered a RSR2, hopefully here by Friday. The old adage of "If you have a $10.00 head wear a $10.00 helmet is very true.
Check the link for a 2 part article Motorcyclist Magazine did on helmets. It pissed off a number of companies who pulled their advertisement revenues from the magazine.

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/index.html

Held and Alpinestars are the only gloves I will wear now. Joe Rocket's upper end gloves are pretty well constructed and there are a couple in Ikon's lineup. Ensure your glove has a closing strap around the wrist, just elastic will not keep the glove on your hand if you have to use it.

Most of the big name companies that make boots make really good boots so it is which ever one you like the best. My last 2 pairs have been Alpinestars waterproof racing boot. All the protection of a racing boot with a GorTex liner for when I get caught in the rain.

Jackets is a mixed bag, you have mesh for riding in the heat and looking good and leather for the most protection with textile in the middle. regardless of what you pick it should have CE approved armor in the elbows, shoulders and a place to put in or include a CE approved back armor. When looking at leather, make sure it is NO LESS than 1.2mm thick, the thicker the better. Also all exposed seams should be double or triple stiched

Don't skimp on your safety gear. I have scars 30+ years later from going cheap. They don't give you painkillers at the hospital when they are picking and scrubbing the gravel out of your skin. affraid

I love my Icon gear. It looks awesome works very well. I've been down in some Icon gear and it held up really well. Definitely saved my skin.

As far as helmets. Scorpion makes a great helmet.

If I remember correctly, KBC bought Arai's old helmet design. Arai and Shoei are tops, so you can now get a KBC (which is an old Arai) for a fraction of the cost.
