Guys, I've been called out...

...By a guy that drives a boosted 346 m3. I don't know which exact turbo kit he's running but supposedly its making 428 at the wheels @ 9si, "off the bottle."

My car (evo IX) has: full exhaust w. test pipe, 02 housing, intake, mbc, licp, fuel pump, cams, and studs. My car should be tuned and ready to go by the end of this week or early next week.

Now, do I even stand a chance? I know m3's are heavy but if he chooses to increase boost, I think I'm in some serious trouble. I am wondering if the stock ECU can hold a race gas map? How would I toggle b/w the two? I am assuming by using OpenECU & EvoScan to load/unload different maps, correct? BTW, I was also wondering where I might be able to get some race gas and what levels of boost I can safely increase it to.

umm with those mods you'll be around 350-360.
race gas u can get from TopSpeed (I think) or other shops...

I don't know who'll win - could be a good one to see.

I have about the same mods..
licp, uicp, intake, o2 housing, 3" turbo-back, cams, studs, 255 fp, mbc and it pulls HARD!

Id wait for a few more mod's just to make sure of a win. It would be tough to say for sure though because I havent seen the BMW.

nah you arent ready for alchy. There are several things that you need to do first before then. Fix the downpipe, intercooler piping and intercooler, injectors, exhaust manifold, and a tune.

You could just not race him rather than dumping a few grand in to your car for a chance ... just a thought.

If he's on street tires, run him from a dig. You'll have an advantage, especially if its on an un-prepped surface. 400 hp is nothing if you can't put it to the ground.

You can hold multiple maps on the ECU, but it's a pain to deal with and not many people have done it. You can anways get a race gas map built and swap it with your notebook PC and Tactrix cable after you fill up.

I agree, I'm almost sure he's running street tires. I think I might have a good shot from a dig...now I need to get my hands on some race gas...

It is easy to find. But YOU NEED A TUNE!!! Dont race anything til then.

i dont think his car is fine now. i bet he could use some nicer fuel curves in his mapping.

if you had a wideband you could tell but since you dont....

if i was you id get me a wideband and get the tune from matt.
thatway if you ever do more mods before the tune you know what you is running and see how bad of a tune you need it.

esides you can learn how to tune yourself.

i have seen cams and a fuel pump put in a 9 and had the hell beat out of it with no tune and he had a wideband and the car was runnin pig rich. Its just not gonna make the power

i guess its running rich because the ecu is just throwing fuel at it when it senses knock...

I say no, you can't. e46 boosted 9psi, i don't know.

You might be close after a tune.

Depending on the cam it might go lean or rich .. I'm not a big cam person so I honestly can't make a call on that. If he can get a log I can take a look and make a call if it's safe to run w/o a tune or not.

There is a such thing as too rich though ... if it goes below 9:1 it can get dangerous.

Most basic mods will cause lean spots, such as exhaust mods or intake filters. There is a large buffer on the stock tune up top at stock boost. If you up the boost, it gets leaner. Thats the biggest danger.

when you race turn the mbc knob all the way to the right. then race him. if you win thats great if you loose just say my engine blew up.... which it will at that point. lol

hahah don't worry guys, I'm not risking my motor to race right now. I'm picking up new plugs today and going to attempt to install them. The oem plugs are pre-gapped correct? Do I need any special tools?

btw, sung ... it's a korean guy, i think the russian guy ur talking about drives a red m3 on nos.

you dont need to be gapping them iridium ones...

just put it in.

torqe it to 20lbs.

okay, now I'm in trouble.. I don't know how tight I'm tightening the plugs...is it crucial to torque it down to exactly 20 lbs?

Snug + 1/4 turn. Joey did 30 ft/lb like a n00b and it is fine.
